Prep Football Roundup: Admirals open new stadium in style; Pirates and Warriors are each 3-0

Gulfport christened its brand new on campus Stadium in fine fashion Friday night.

Admirals quarterback Jackson Wolverton threw for four first-half touchdown passes to set the tone early as Gulfport thumped visiting Laurel 51-0. The win moves GHS to 2-0 on the young season after an open date last week.

Wolverton finished up with almost 200 yards passing, while running back Jo Jo Thomas ran for 86 yards and one score and caught a touchdown toss as well. Syniker Taylor, Jr., hauled in a pair of those scoring strikes.

The Gulfport defense, which has yet to allow a point so far this season, was led by linebacker Colton Crandle with eight total tackles, includxing four tackles for loss, while lineman Lawrence Robertson registered a pair of sacks.

Cordarious Payton had two interceptions, and Victor Labega returned one pick off for a score as well.

Pass Christian 40, Presbyterian Christian 38

Pirate standout senior quarterback Paris Trivillion threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 197 yards and one score in a close win over the visiting Bobcats Friday night.

Trivillion also set the school’s career passing record in the process, as wide out . Brandon Laneaux, Pass Christian caught four passes for 125 yards and two of those touchdown passes.

The Pirates moved to 3-0 so far with the win.

D’Iberville 53, Seminary 13

Warrior stalwart senior signal-caller Jordan Walley completed 11 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns while adding 43 rushing yards and another score from the ground as DHS cruised on the road.

D’Iberville’s Matt Fairley recorded six tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, a pass breakup, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and caught a touchdown pass.

The Warriors moved to 3-0 with the win.

Vancleave 34, Forrest County AHS 28

The Bulldogs won their second straight back and forth battle at home slipping past the Aggies Friday night.

Vancleave running back Cam Sherrod rushed for 102 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries, and he also caught two passes for 17 yards and another score as VHS moved to 2-1 with the win.

Bulldog defensive back Easton Pylate came up with a late interception to seal the deal.

The Bulldogs, now 2-1, were coming off of a wild 49-46 win ovr Richland last week.
