ST. MARTIN — For the second straight season, St. Martin has jumped out to a solid 3-0 start to the season after coming out of the gate with three straight wins over “Southern Six” foes.

The Yellow Jackets completely dismantled visiting Stone 45-14 Friday night here at Joe Barlow Stadium. St. Martin also got off to a 3-0 start under second-year head coach Woody Cagnolatti last year, thanks to a 21-3 road win over Stone.

The Tomcats drop to 1-2 with their second straight lopsided loss, after a 42-0 loss to Poplarville on the road last week as well.

The Yellow Jackets had that total by halftime this week, taking a commanding 42-7 lead into intermission and setting in play the running clock for the entire second half.

In that decisive first half, St. Martin standout sophomore signal-caller Dawsen Sullivan made all the difference as he accounted for five of the six Yellow Jacket touchdowns over the first two quarters.

Sullivan twice hooked up with his brother Dawsey Sullivan on touchdown tosses, and Dawsen Sullivan also ran for three scores as well.

A 20-yard scoring strike from brother-to-brother made it 27-0 with 6:33 to play in the second stanza, and that came just after an almost an hour weather delay.

Then, after Stone quarterback Zander Howard hooked up with Matthew Hendry on a 34-yard touchdown pass, Dawsen Sullivan responded with touchdown sprints of 4 and 8 yards to make it 42-7 at the half.

St. Martin’s Seth Crockett had a 2-yard scoring plunge and he added a two-point conversion just before halftime.

Hendry opened the third frame with an 80-yard scoring scamper, but the deal had already been sealed.
