POPLARVILLE — The renewal of a neighborhood rivaly in Pearl River County is this week’s “Smith Group Realty Homefield Advantage” Game of the Week for SouthMiss6 Sports.

Each week during the prep football season, SouthMiss6 Sports will feature a “GOTW” sponsored by The Smith Group Realty, your “Homefield Advantage” for buying and selling real estate in South Mississippi.

A pair of Pearl River County rivals that are both off to solid starts face off in this battle of unbeatens, as Poplarvile hosts Pearl River Central. Both the Hornets and he Blue Devils are rolling right along at 3-0 so far, but each are coming off of much different routes to those results last week.

Poplarville smacked Hancock 49-32 at home and PRC scored in the final minute to beat East Central on the road 30-23. Hornets standout senior running back Ty Keys ran for ran for 167 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-32 win over visiting Hancock Friday night. He also returned a kickoff for a score. His worksheet for getting into the end zone over the past four seasons is now at 90 total, 87 on the ground and two more through the air plus the kick return.

Meanwhile, PRC junior quarterback Titus Feaster tossed a touchdown pass to wide out Kendall Morrison with just over a minute to play in Hurley as the Blue Devils knocked off the home-standing Hornets.

Feaster finished 13-of-18 through the air for 232 and two touchdowns, both to Morrison. PRC running back Caden Hinton also ran for 118 yards on just five carries and scored a touchdown as well.

This marks the 69th meeting all-time between the Hornets and Blue Devils on the gridiron, with Poplarville holding a commanding 46-22 advantage, including eight straight wins. Poplarville pounded PRC 49-14 last year.

This is also the second straight season when these two teams come into this match-up unbeaten as well.
