PASCAGOULA — Resurrection took a significant step in making the playoffs Friday night using a power running game to slip past Richton 14-6 Friday night in the Region 8-1A opener for both teams.
The Eagles (1-4) will host Taylorsville (0-6) next Friday night in another key match-up in the five-team region and finish the season hosting Lumberton and traveling to Stringer, who are the favorites to win the region.
It was also Homecoming for the Eagles here at War Memorial Stadium.

“We still have a rough road to go,” said Resurrection head coach Scott Sisson, after the win. “It’s a tough league and we still have play one game at a time and one play at a time.”
Dominic Sanders powered the win with 100 yards on 30 carries.
“It was a ball-control type game,” Sisson said, noting that injuries to his backfield limited his choices throughout the night. “[Sanders] knew early in the week he was going to get the ball a lot.”
Resurrection took control of the game with the opening drive of the second half, using 17 plays to slowly drive 72 yards, capped by a Sanders 2-yard dive with 2:24 left in the quarter.

Still, Sisson said he did not feel easy about the game until Trayson Crabtree forced a fumble on a punt return with 55 seconds left in the game that Aaron Moore recovered at the RCS 47.
“We’ve given up a lot of scores this year on busted plays,” Sisson said.
Resurrection’s defense was the other story of the game holding Richton (2-3, 0-1) to 130 yards and five first downs on the night. Most of the Rebels yardage came on two big plays – a 39 yard spring by OJ Reed late in the second quarter on a drive that ended with the close of the half on the Resurrection 35 and a 48-yard sprint by eighth-grade quarterback William White early in the fourth quarter that cut the Eagles lead to 14-6.

Due to the Eagles’ ground control offense and a strong defense, Richton managed only 31 plays on the night with Brody Binion leading from RCS from his linebacker slot and eighth-grader Morgan Lucas holding the edge.
Blake Ayers and Queron Reed paced the Rebels defense, which limited Resurrection to just 182 yards and 11 first downs, with seven stops each.
Resurrection opened the scoring with the first drive of the night, taking advantage of a short Richton punt that gave the Eagles the ball on the Richton 38. Moore capped the six-play drive, helped by two Rebels penalties, one an offside on fourth down from the Rebels 30, with a 14 yard sprint to give the Eagles the early 7-0 lead.
