BAY ST. LOUIS — Defending Class 3A state champion Our Lady Academy opened defense of its title in fine fashion Saturday afternoon.

The Crescents dispatched visiting Magee 3-0 (25-1, 25-6, 25-2) in the opening round of the South State playoffs.

The decision moves OLA to a solid 27-10 overall on the season. The Crescents will also be at home on Tuesday in round two.

Versatile junior standout Taylor Henley led OLA with a match-high 14 kills in the winning effort, while Krissi Pavolini added a match-high 23 assists. Kaylin Kinniburgh had 11 aces and 10 assists as well. Madeline Piazza chipped in four digs.

Elsewhere in Class 3A South State opening round playoff action, St. Patrick went on the road and swept past 3-0.

In Class 1A, home-standing Resurrection swept South Delta 3-0 to move to 17-7 overall.

And, in the Class 4A South State playoffs, Pass Christian swept past visiting Raymond 25-13, 25-8, 25-7. The Lady Pirates move to 21-5 overall with the decision.

And, just across the Bay bridge, home-standing Bay High dumped Richland 3-0 (25-5, 25-7, 25-9).

In Poplarville, West Lauderdale ended the season for the Lady Hornets 3-1
