With yet another prep football season in full swing across South Mississippi last week, it’s time for next installment of “Friday Night Rewind” here at SouthMiss6 Sports.
“Friday Night Rewind” has been a part of the journalistic fabric of prep football across the “Southern Six” for most of the past three decades. Each week of the season we’ll take a look back at the action that took place all across this region the previous week before we move on to the next week.

Here are seven things we noticed in the “Southern 6” Friday night:
- Warriors Win — D’Iberville maintained both its unbeaten season and its spot atop Region 4-7A with a thrilling 55-50 win over visiting St. Martin Friday night. The Warriors overcame a slight early fourth quarter deficit with two touchdowns down the stretch, including an interception return for a score by versatile senior standout Jordan Walley, to secure the win and move to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the region race. Walley did it on both sides of the ball. Offensively, from his quarterback spot, he accounted for almost 360 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. His defensive score gave the Minnesota commit six total touchdowns on the evening. He went an impressive 21-of-24 through the air for 305 yards and three scores, while he also added 58 yards rushing and two more touchdowns on the ground. For St. Martin, sophomore quarterback Dawsen Sullivan threw for 348 yards and four scores while he also ran the ball 31 times for 239 yards and two more touchdowns. His favorite target was his twin brother Dawsey Sullivan, who hauled in 10 catches for 172 yards and two scores. St. Martin falls to 6-2 overall, and 2-2 in the region race with the loss.
- Roll Tide Roll — For the 26th straight season, Picayune has started off region play at 2-0. The Maroon Tide rolled over home-standing Hancock 56-27 Friday night in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate here at Brett Favre Field. The win pushes Picayune to 4-3 overall, and 2-0 in Region 4-6A action as the Maroon Tide aim for their sixth straight league title as well as their 14th in the past 25 years. The Maroon Tide got three rushing touchdowns from both senior standout tailback Xavier Dennis and his more than capable back-up Javion Mason in the decisive win, which stretched its winning streak to seven straight over the Hawks dating back to the 2002 season. It also marked the third win for Picayune over Hancock in the past year. The Maroon Tide jumped out to a commanding 28-7 halftime lead and then extended that advantage to 35-7 early in the second half.
- Double OT — Kevin Marshall followed guard Jonathan Dease into the left side of the line Friday night and broke through for a six-yard scoring run that gave Pascagoula a 17-10 come-from-behind double overtime win over Long Beach in Region 4-6A high school football action. The win prevented a second consecutive loss for Pascagoula (3-4, 1-1) and broke a four game losing streak for the Panthers. Both teams, kicking into strong winds, missed field goals in the first overtime period. Long Beach, behind four consecutive carries from Gavin Sutherlin drove the ball to within the Pascagoula 1 in the second overtime, but could not force the Panther defense with Emauri Anderson and Jaedan Blanchard holding stout along the defensive line, with Anderson wrapping up Sutherlin just before the goal line on fourth down. Glaude was 10-for-20 for 146 yards and a touchdown on the night. Sutherlin led the Bearcats with 146 yards on 30 carries. Landon Thode led the Bearcat defense with six stops.
- Powerful Paris — The city of Moss Point was transformed into Paris Friday night. Paris Trivillion, that is. Trivillion, the senior standout signal-caller for Pass Christian, accounted for five touchdowns and almost 450 yards of total offense here at Dantzler Stadium as the visitors smashed Moss Point 52-8 in Region 8-4A play. The win maintains Pass Christian’s unbeaten season at 8-0, and clinches its second straight league title in the process. Moss point falls to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the region race. Trivillion completed 17-of-25 passes for 319 yards and four of those touchdowns, and he also ran for 113 yards on just 10 carries and one score as well. He helped power the Pirates to a quick and commanding 38-0 lead just 18 minutes into the game and Pass never looked back in the dominating performance.
- Gator Comeback — Gautier overcame a 13-point fourth quarter deficit with 21 unanswered points down the stretch to pull out a 35-27 win over visiting Pearl River Central Friday night in Region 4-6A play. With the win, the Gators move to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the region race. The Blue Devils are 4-3 overall, winless in the league at 0-2, and have now lost three-out-of their last four games. Gautier back-up quarterback Ty Moore came on in that decisive final frame to direct the game-wining comeback, Trailing 27-14 with right at 9 minutes to play, Moore pitched the ball to GHS tailback Latrell Pogue and he scooted 24-yards for a score to cut the deficit to 27-21. Then, with just under a minute to play, Moore found Julez Watson wide open behind the PRC defense for a 67-yard scoring strike to give the Gators their first lead of the night at 28-27 after Devon Garrett converted the extra point. The Gators then sealed the deal on PRC’s next possession, when Brandon Crayton picked off Blue Devil quarterback Titus Feaster and returned it 60-yards for a score just 16 seconds after the home team took their first lead.
- Defending Champs — Gulfport, like D’Iberville, also remained unbeaten in Region 4-7A sailing to an easy 47-6 win over visiting West Harrison. Admirals quarterback Jackson Wolverton completed 15-of-19 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns as the defending Class 7A state champs moved to 3-0 in the region race and 6-1 overall. The Hurricanes fell to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in league play. Gulfport was ahead 40-0 at halftime and rolled to the win.
- Hornets Prevail — East Central became the first “Southern Six” squad in Region 4-5A play to earn a league win, knocking off visiting Northeast Jones 34-14 in impressive fashion. The Hornets remained atop the league standings at 2-0, along with Wayne County, with their second straight region win. The Tigers scored all 14 of their points in the second quarter, but East Central took a 19-14 lead into the halftime break and never surrendered it, scoring 15 more points in the second half for the win.
