We’ll take a look at a couple of current streaks in “By the Numbers” before we get to the weekly poll;

Pass Christian is in some rarefied air this season.

The Pirates are sailing along at a perfect 8-0 with just two games left to play in the regular season. This marks the first campaign in 41 years, since the 1975 season, that Pass Christian has started out at 8-0 and its just the second timed in the modern era of prep football that the Pirates have accomplished such a feat.

Pass Christian captured just the second region title in program history last week with a 52-8 thumping on the road over Moss Point. It marks the second consecutive league title for head coach Jeff Stockstill and his squad.

The Pirates are now 33-10 under the direction of Stockstill, who is in his fourth year guiding the ship in the Pass. Last year, He led PCHS to its most successful season in program history as the Pirates went 11-2, after starting off at 2-1 and ending the regular season at 9-1 before advancing to the third round in the Class 4A South State playoffs.

In his short tenure, Stockstill already ranks third overall in total career wins at PCHS, sitting just one game behind Kenny Lyons who went 34-23-2 in six seasons from 12966-1971.

Lyons is one game back of Joseph Brown, who went 35-56 in none seasons from 1988-1996.

In that 1975 campaign, first-year head coach Bob Rogers led PCHS to a 9-0 regular season, which is still a standing record, and the Pascagoula River Conference title. The Pirates then beat George County in the Oil Bowl in Citronelle, Ala., to move to 1–0.

However, in a strange occurrence, Pass Christian actually played in two different bowl games that season. After dispatching the Rebels, PCHS fell to host Stone County 17-7 in the Pickle Bowl at A.L. May Stadium in Perkinston on the campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to end that season at 10-1.

Hancock North Central actually agreed to cancel the regular season finale with the Pass to open up the possibility of the Pirates playing in Alabama since it was not a conference contest.
