Prep Football: PRC hosts Pascagoula in the “Smith Group Realty Homefield Advantage” Game of the Week

CARRIERE — A key showdown in Region 4-6A play is this week’s “Smith Group Realty Homefield Advantage” Game of the Week for SouthMiss6 Sports.

Each week during the prep football season, SouthMiss6 Sports will feature a “GOTW” sponsored by The Smith Group Realty, your “Homefield Advantage” for buying and selling real estate in South Mississippi.

Pearl River Central hosts Pascagoula Friday night at Hendrix Stadium in Carriere in a game with many possible implications on the playoff chase in the region race.

This is just the ninth all-time meeting on the football field between the Panthers and Blue Devils,and  Pascagoula has a slight 5-3 lead in the all-time series, after dismantling PRC last year 42-0.

Pascagoula sits at 3-4 overall, and1-1 in the league standings, after snapping a four game losing streak with a 17-10 double overtime win over visiting Long Beach last week.

PRC is off to a 0-2 start in the region race and is 4-3overall. The Blue Devils opened league action with a close 42-41 loss to visiting Hancock, before dropping an excruciating 35-27 loss on the road to Gautier last week by giving up 14 points in the final 45 seconds to the Gators.

A third straight league loss for the Blue Devils would all but eliminate them for playoff contention, and a win by PRC would harm the Panthers as well.

A PHS win would be a major step towards securing a postseason berth for the fourth straight season, and also keep it in the running for possible home-field advantage in the opening round as well.

This marks the second time in three weeks that the Panthers have made the trip to Pearl River County, after falling to Picayune to open league play 38-23.

This all-time series just dates back 15 years, to 2011.
