We’ll take a look at a couple of current streaks in “By the Numbers” before we get to the weekly poll;
Several times over the past year or so, Bay High has been featured in this space, and for all the wrong reasons.
But, not this week.
The Tigers snapped a 20-game losing streak last week with an exciting 17-12 win over visiting Forrest County AHS in Region 8-4A play. And, in doing so, Bay High thrust itself directly into the playoff chase in the league standings.

Here are the current standings in Region 8-4A:
(Region/Overall)
- Pass Christian 3-0, 9-0
- Greene County 2-1, 6-3
- Forrest Co. AHS 1-2, 3-5
- Bay High 1-2, 1-7
- Moss Point High 1-3, 2-7

This week, as the four smaller classifications in the state wrap up regular season play, Bay High hosts Pass and Greene County travels to FCAHS. Moss Point is done with league play.
The undefeated Pirates, in the midst of an historic season, have already clinched the top seed in the region race. But that’s basically all that’s been decided so far.
The easiest scenario is this: if Pass and Greene win, then the Wildcats take the second seed, FCAHS is third and Bay is fourth.

And that’s because, BHS, FCAHS and MPHS all finish at 1-3 and in a three-way tie for the final two playoff berths. In that case, the 12-point tie-breaker is utilized, and FCAHS is a +7, Bay High is 0 and MPHS is -7.
That’s because, Bay High beat FCAHS 17-12 and lost to MPHS 14-9. Forrest County beat MPHS 26-14.
Moss Point can only make the state playoffs if FCAHS beats GCHS and Bay High loses to Pass. Then it’s 1. Pass, 2. FCAHS, 3. GCHS 4. MPHS.
Also, Bay High could finish as the third seed if the ball bounces the right way.
