PASS CHRISTIAN — The Biloxi boys’ basketball team opened the Randy McCrory era with a win in the Pass Christian Invitational on Tuesday. The Indians pulled away from the Panthers in the second half to secure a 71-47 win over the reigning Class 6A State Champions.

The game saw only two lead changes after Biloxi jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Pascagoula took the lead at 13-12 with 3:00 minutes left on the first quarter clock. And that’s the only lead they would have. Biloxi would take the lead on a Xavier Butler layup to lead a 9-0 run to close out the first quarter.

Xavier Butler and Elvenis Davis would score layups on consecutive Indians’ possessions and Ethan Richburg would score on a layup a couple of possessions later. Julian Paige would score on a putback, and Davis would close the run on sinking the first of two free throws.

Pascagoula outscored the Indians in the second quarter (13-11, but that was as good as it would get for the Panthers.

The second half was all Biloxi as they outscored Pascagoula 39-21, outscoring them 24-12 in the fourth quarter.

“We got consecutive stops in the second half,” said McCrory, who took over for BHS legend Seber Windham.. “We took a lot of pride; to make runs you have to get multiple stops. I think we settled down and guarded people, keeping the guy in front. We did a good job of making them one and done.”

Pascagoula pulled to within three points of the Indians (29-26) with 15 ticks remaining on the second-quarter clock. But the Indians got the ball across court, and found Christian Gullett in the far corner who sank his shot behind the arc for a three pointer at the buzzer, giving the Indians a three-point lead at 32-26 at halftime.

The Indian win snapped an 18-game winning streak for Pascagoula, that included that run to the state title last year.
